Our Advocacy
In April 2016 I went to Washington, D.C. with the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics to lobby members of the Senate HELP Committee for safer personal care laws. I wasn't there as an expert. I was there because I got sick doing this job.
I signed the Compact for Safe Cosmetics in 2006, ten years before Lena Rose existed, and we're still pushing for honest labels and protections for salon workers — who are overwhelmingly women, and disproportionately women of color.

Cosmetic Safety Efforts
In July 2026 Illinois signed a law banning 24 cosmetic chemicals, including formaldehyde and PFAS, from 1 July 2028, salons included. We already keep them off our shelves. See everything we never carry in The Rose Standard.
Fair Labor & Ethical practices
We are non-tipping because we believe in pay transparency, living wages and fair labor standards. The price on the menu is the whole price. Every Rose is a W-2 employee on a living wage with paid leave and benefits. We reject outdated norms that put pressure on guests and workers alike, and build a culture of care and equity instead.
Safer Standards in Beauty
Our founder, Jenny, is a long-time advocate for safer working conditions in the beauty industry. In April 2016 she went to Washington, D.C. with the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics to lobby members of the Senate HELP Committee, sharing her own story of getting sick from the products she worked with every day, and why reform matters for salon workers and clients alike.
Women Owned + Black Owned Beauty
We are proud to support women-owned and Black-owned brands that align with our clean and green beauty mission. Representation matters—and so does access. We use our platform and purchasing power to uplift underrepresented voices in beauty and ensure a more inclusive, equitable future for the industry.

As advocates for safe cosmetics and informed consumer choice, we continually educate ourselves and our community about what we put on—and in—our bodies.
