A Non-Toxic Nail Salon in Lincoln Square, Chicago: What a Manicure Here Looks Like
Maybe you'd like your nails done without a headache from the fumes. Maybe you'd just like an hour where nobody rushes you. Either way, this is what a manicure looks like at our Lincoln Square shop on Rockwell Street, from the front door to the last coat.
Why we started here
Lena Rose was started by Jenny Duranski, a licensed nail technician since 2003, after the products she worked with every day made her sick. So she built the salon she wished she'd had: one where the person in the chair and the Rose behind the table both go home feeling better than they came in. Ten years on, that is still the whole idea.
What you'll notice when you walk in
The shop smells like flowers, not acetone. You'll be greeted by name and offered tea. If you'd like to talk, wonderful. If you'd rather sit quietly with your eyes closed, that's a real option here, and nobody will take it personally. And nobody judges your cuticles. Bitten nails, a gel habit, a drugstore polish you love: it's all welcome.
What goes on your nails
Everything on our shelves is chosen on purpose. You'll find 10-free and 21-free polishes from small, independent makers, and we'll tell you what's in any bottle you pick up. If you have a sensitivity or an allergy, or you're pregnant, add it to your booking notes and we'll plan around it. Our Roses are trained for chemical sensitivities, and Lena Rose is latex-free: nitrile gloves only.
Choosing your manicure
- A classic manicure: shaping, cuticle care, a hand massage and polish.
- A Russian manicure: a careful, dry cuticle technique for a clean finish that grows out neatly. More on our Russian manicure page.
- Dazzle Dry: a long-wearing polish that dries fast, with no UV lamp.
You'll find every nail service and price on our manicures and pedicures page.
Clean tools, every time
Every tool is cleaned and disinfected between guests, and so is every pedicure bowl, following Illinois sanitation rules. Ask about it any time. We're happy to show you.
The price on the menu is the whole price
Lena Rose is a non-tipping salon. Every Rose is a W-2 employee on a living wage with paid leave and benefits, so the price you see is the price you pay. If you'd like to thank your Rose, booking again or leaving a review means the world.
