We support the global goal of holding warming to 1.5°C, and we do it the way a small shop can: by measuring what we use and throw away, using less, closing loops, and telling the truth about both.

Where we are, September 2026

Waste: composting at Lincoln Square through WasteNot since 2021 (408 lbs so far); TerraCycle zero-waste boxes since 2021 (642 lbs); shipping materials from our vendors reused in every e-commerce order, so we buy no virgin packing material.

Water: no jetted pedicure tubs, so a pedicure uses about 1 to 3 gallons, against the 7 gallons or more that many jetted pedicure spas use per service; dry manicures and waterless body treatments on the menu; water-efficient laundry machines.

Energy: 100% LED lighting at Naperville.

Materials: a House Line in glass jars and compostable pouches; uniforms on Bella+Canvas eco-produced garments with lower-impact inks; printed materials through Eco Promotions and EcoEnclose using algae inks and kraft papers; recycled over virgin materials wherever we can; technology in the shop to cut paper.

Land: some of the herbs and flowers in our House Line grow in our founder's garden beds, fed by composted scraps from a Mill food recycler and a flock of backyard chickens, worked toward a regenerative, closed-loop system.

What we will do

  • By 31 October 2026, compost service at Naperville.
  • By 31 December 2026, weigh and log every waste stream at both shops, landfill included, for at least four weeks.
  • By 31 March 2027, finish our single-use audit and choose our first swaps.
  • By 31 May 2027, return to an electric vehicle as our commercial vehicle when the current lease ends.
  • By 30 June 2027, twelve months of electricity and gas data for both shops, so we have an energy baseline.
  • By 31 December 2027, convert Lincoln Square to 100% LED lighting, and cut single-use items per service by a percentage set from the baseline; we will not name a number we haven't measured.
  • Every year, at least one collective action on climate or chemical safety.

Who does it: Jenny Duranski, owner, runs the measuring and reporting; one Rose per shop keeps the weekly waste log; compost, TerraCycle and lighting are budgeted with our CFO each January.

How we bring people along: Roses are trained on what goes where; Lena Loves get refills and take-back; suppliers are asked about packaging and take-back in our vetting; our composting and recycling partners handle collection.

Jenny Duranski, owner, approves this plan, reviews progress every June and December, and updates it in full by September 2029.
