Sugaring Hair Removal in Naperville

Downtown Naperville · 14 Jackson Ave

The full sugaring menu, on Jackson Ave

Sugar paste is sugar, lemon and water. It goes on at about body temperature, comes off in the direction your hair grows, and lifts the hair without taking the live skin underneath with it — which is why most people find it gentler than wax, and why it is a sensible place to start if your skin reacts to things.

Naperville runs the whole sugaring menu: brows, lip and chin through bikini, Brazilian and full legs, at the same prices as our Chicago shop. If you would rather have wax, we do that too, for every service on the list.

We are one independently owned shop rather than a chain, which mostly means the same few people every time, and they will remember where you left off. Jocelyn runs the Naperville team.

Sugaring questions we get in Naperville

What is the difference between sugaring and waxing?

Sugar paste is three ingredients — sugar, lemon and water — and it is applied at roughly body temperature, so there is no hot wax involved. It grips the hair and not the live skin underneath, and it is removed in the direction the hair grows rather than against it. That is why people with sensitive or reactive skin usually get on better with sugaring, and why it tends to leave less irritation behind. The paste is water soluble and biodegradable, so cleanup is warm water and nothing else. We also offer wax for every service on the menu if you would rather.

How much does sugaring cost in Naperville?

Brows are $25, lip is $12, underarm is $25, a Brazilian is $75 and full legs are $105. The full menu is listed above, and prices are the same at our Naperville and Chicago shops. We do not accept tips — every provider is a W-2 employee on a living wage with benefits — so the price you see is the price you pay.

How long does my hair need to be for sugaring?

About a quarter of an inch, which is roughly two weeks of growth, or about the length of a grain of rice. Sugar paste can pick up shorter hair than wax can, so if you are somewhere in between and not sure, come in and we will take a look rather than turn you away. If you shave, give it ten days to two weeks before your appointment.

Does sugaring hurt?

It is hair being removed from the root, so you will feel it, and we are not going to tell you otherwise. Most people who have had both say sugaring is noticeably easier than waxing, because the paste is at body temperature and comes off with the direction of growth instead of against it. The first appointment is usually the most sensitive one, and it gets easier as the hair grows back finer. Tell your provider if you want them to go slower. Nobody here will make you feel dramatic for asking.

How long do sugaring results last?

Three to five weeks for most people, depending on the area and how quickly your hair grows. Because sugaring removes hair from the root, regrowth tends to come back softer and sparser over time, and a lot of clients find they can stretch their appointments further apart after the first few. Coming in on a regular cycle, roughly every four weeks, is what gets you there fastest.

How do I prepare for my first sugaring appointment?

Not much to it. Let the hair grow to about a quarter inch, skip heavy lotion or oil on the area that morning, and exfoliate gently a day or two beforehand if you think of it. If you do not, that is fine too. Skip retinol on the area for about five days before, and if you are using any prescription that thins the skin, tell us when you book so we can plan around it. If you are nervous, say so when you arrive. We do this all day, and you are not the first person to feel that way.

Does sugaring help with ingrown hairs?

It helps. Removing hair in the direction it grows means the hair is less likely to snap below the surface, which is where most ingrowns start. It is not a guarantee — body hair is body hair — but regular sugaring plus gentle exfoliation between appointments makes a real difference for most people. If ingrowns are your main reason for coming in, say so, and your provider will talk through what to do between visits.
